2 Key elements to consider before hiring a video production company.

Behind the scenes of a Brand Story Business Video shoot.

Getting started with a video production company can seem like a daunting task.

Wether you’ve worked with a company before or are just starting out, these two steps are key to the success of your relationship with any video production company. Going into a discovery meeting with this information will keep the main thing the main thing and will lead to creating a video that hits the mark every time!

Know who you are and have a clear mission/vision.

What makes you, you? We always recommend to our clients before we even get started with a video project that they write down who they are or who their company is on a single piece of paper. Try your best to not flip to the other side of the paper. This keeps the entire outline hyper-focused on the story and your brand identity.

Here are a couple of questions to help you generate this document.

  • Who are you?

  • What does your business do?

  • Why does it matter?

  • Who does your business impact?

  • What makes you unique?

Not only is this extremely helpful to production companies when they are creating concepts for your brand but it is also a great tool to remind you and your teams of what you value and the mission everyone is working towards.

Know who your target audience is.

There is a saying that if you target everyone, you'll get no one. But if you target one, you'll get everyone. A great exercise for generating your target audience is creating the ideal avatar. Think of the customer that checks off every box. This list shouldn't be mud that you throw at the wall but rather a fine-tuned example of who would benefit most from your product or services. This avatar will be the focal point that we or any video production company will use in the pre-production process.

Here are a couple of questions that you could consider when creating your avatar:

  • What is the ideal age range of the avatar?

  • Is the avatar married or single?

  • Does the avatar have a specific need that you solve?

  • Where does the avatar live?

  • Does the avatar have hobbies that go together with what you offer?

These questions will look different for every business, but these are a great place to start.
